The towers are dazzling, but Hong Kong's soul lives in the cha chaan teng at breakfast, the incense coils of Man Mo Temple, and the jade market in Yau Ma Tei where Grace tells you what is real and what is not. This is a city that rewards the curious and the unhurried — and our tours are built around exactly that. One hour by high-speed ferry brings you to Macau: a UNESCO Portuguese colonial city, flat, atmospheric and endlessly fascinating. Two extraordinary cities on the same pearl of a bay.

Made for your pace

Why travellers over 50 love Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of Asia's most accessible cities for first-time visitors — English universally spoken, signs bilingual, world-class transport throughout.

The Peak Tram eliminates the only significant climb; Kowloon's temple and market streets are entirely flat and walked at whatever pace you choose.

Private transfers and a dedicated guide handle every logistic, including the Turbo-Jet ferry to Macau — there is never a moment of navigational uncertainty.

World-class private hospitals on Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon provide an additional layer of reassurance for over-60s travelling in Asia.

The cool season from October to March is genuinely comfortable — 17–26°C, low humidity, clear blue skies — ideal for sightseeing all day without fatigue.

Experiences

Top things to do in Hong Kong

1Victoria Harbour from the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade

One of the world's great urban panoramas — the towers of Hong Kong Island reflected in the harbour, the Star Ferry crossing every few minutes and the nightly Symphony of Lights.

2The Peak Tram and Victoria Peak

The tilted funicular ascent through the Mid-Levels to the highest point of Hong Kong Island, with 360-degree views of the harbour, Kowloon and the hills of Guangdong.

3Man Mo Temple, Hollywood Road

Hong Kong's oldest temple, dating to 1847, where enormous incense coils hang from the ceiling and smoke rises through shafts of morning light — ancient, atmospheric and free to enter.

4Dim sum in Yau Ma Tei

Har gow, siu mai, cheung fun and turnip cake eaten slowly with jasmine tea in a neighbourhood restaurant that has never needed to advertise — Hong Kong food at its unhurried best.

5The Macau ferry crossing

An hour across the Pearl River Delta on the Turbo-Jet to Macau: a UNESCO-listed Portuguese colonial city of baroque churches, mosaic pavements and a cuisine unlike anywhere else in the world.

6Tian Tan Buddha, Lantau Island

The world's largest seated outdoor bronze Buddha, reached by a spectacular cable car over forested mountains — a morning that combines jaw-dropping scenery with profound calm.

Eat & drink

Food & drink in Hong Kong

Dim sum

The ritual of the Cantonese mid-morning table — steamed dumplings, baked buns, rice noodle rolls and turnip cake, eaten slowly with pu-erh or jasmine tea. Among the world's great eating experiences.

Roast meats — char siu and roast goose

The glistening Cantonese roast meat shop is one of Hong Kong's defining sights. Char siu (honey-glazed barbecue pork) and roast goose are among the most celebrated dishes in Chinese cooking.

Cha chaan teng and milk tea

The Hong Kong-style café is a local institution — formica tables, pineapple buns warm from the oven, condensed milk tea and a scrambled egg sandwich. The most honest and delicious breakfast in Asia.

Transport & transfers

Getting around Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of the world's most efficiently connected cities. We use private air-conditioned vehicles for all excursions, supplemented by the iconic Star Ferry across the harbour and the Peak Tram to Victoria Peak. The Macau extension uses the Turbo-Jet high-speed ferry from the Hong Kong–Macau Ferry Terminal. No internal flights are needed at any point.

Why travel with us for Hong Kong

  • Grace Lam was born in Kowloon and has guided Hong Kong and Macau for eleven years — she knows which cha chaan teng serves the best milk tea and which jade stall at the market has the real thing.

  • All transport — Star Ferry, Peak Tram, Ngong Ping cable car, Turbo-Jet ferry to Macau — is pre-arranged and accompanied throughout, so there is never a moment of navigational uncertainty.

  • We schedule Hong Kong strictly in the October-to-March cool season and tell you honestly to avoid the typhoon months — your comfort always comes before a quick sale.

  • Both hotels — harbour-view Tsim Sha Tsui in Hong Kong, the Mandarin Oriental in Macau — are selected for location as well as quality, so you are always a short walk from the best the city offers.

  • Hong Kong is often guests' first experience of Asia, and we design the itinerary accordingly: effortless logistics, generous rest time built into every day, and a guide who adjusts the pace to exactly what you need.

Common questions

Hong Kong travel questions answered

Do I need a visa for Hong Kong?

No — British citizens can visit Hong Kong for up to 180 days with only a valid UK passport (6+ months' validity). No advance application, no fee. The same applies to Macau: UK citizens can enter visa-free for up to 90 days.

When is the best time to visit Hong Kong?

October to March is the ideal window: temperatures of 17–26°C, low humidity and clear blue skies. We deliberately avoid May to September, when temperatures regularly exceed 30°C with humidity above 80% and typhoon season is active. All our departures fall within the cool, dry autumn-to-spring window.

Is Hong Kong easy to navigate as a first-time Asia visitor?

Hong Kong is the most accessible city in Asia for first-time UK visitors. English is universally spoken — in hotels, restaurants, taxis, shops and on all transport signs. Our guide Grace accompanies you throughout, so you never need to navigate independently. Many guests choose Hong Kong specifically as their first Asia trip — and almost all go on to book a second Asian destination afterwards.

What is included in the Macau extension?

The 7-day Hong Kong & Macau tour includes two nights at the Mandarin Oriental Macau, return Turbo-Jet ferry tickets, Grace accompanying you throughout both cities, a Macanese lunch, a dinner, all temple and historic site entrance fees. Macau's UNESCO Historic Centre — the baroque churches, Senado Square and the A-Ma Temple — is explored over two days at a gentle, flat pace.
