India is the country that changes every traveller who visits. Forts that rise from desert plains, Bengal tigers glimpsed at dawn, the geometry of the Taj at first light. Our specialists have spent careers here and understand precisely how to modulate the intensity for each guest.

Why travellers over 50 love India
India's palace hotels — former royal residences converted by the Maharaja families themselves — offer an entirely different category of accommodation from any other country in the world.
The wildlife parks of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh offer genuine tiger tracking by private jeep with certified naturalist guides who have decades of experience.
India's diversity is extraordinary — desert forts, Mughal gardens, backwater houseboats and Himalayan foothills are all accessible on a single three-week itinerary.
Our specialists carefully pace every India tour, ensuring midday rest, no early starts and genuine downtime built into each day — India rewards those who don't rush.
The Taj Mahal at sunrise, approached slowly and with proper context from a knowledgeable guide, is one of the genuinely transformative experiences in world travel.
Experiences
Top things to do in India
1Taj Mahal at sunrise, Agra
The white marble mausoleum changes colour through the day — milky dawn light is the definitive moment. An overnight stay in Agra means no early departure from Delhi.
2Tiger tracking by private jeep, Ranthambore
The ruined 10th-century fort that looms over the park makes the landscape unique. Morning and evening safaris in an open-sided jeep with an expert naturalist guide.
3Mehrangarh Fort and the blue city of Jodhpur
The most dramatic fort in Rajasthan rises from a 125-metre rock. The lanes below it are washed in indigo blue — the traditional colour of the Brahmin caste.
4Lake Pichola at sunset, Udaipur
Boat to the Taj Lake Palace hotel — an 18th-century white marble island palace — as the Aravalli hills glow pink behind it. Often called the world's most romantic hotel.
5Kerala backwaters by private houseboat
A kettuvallam houseboat with a crew of two, rice and coconut fish curry prepared on board, drifting through palm-fringed channels where time appears to have stopped.
6Jaipur's City Palace and Amber Fort
The 'Pink City' contains two of India's finest royal complexes. Arrive at Amber Fort by 08:00 and the elephant-flank entrance ramp is quiet enough to photograph properly.
7Varanasi on the Ganga at dawn
The oldest continuously inhabited city in the world — morning boat on the Ganges as the ghats come to life. Cremation pyres, flower offerings, yoga on the steps. Nothing prepares you.
8Spice plantation cooking class, Kerala
Walk through cardamom, vanilla and pepper vines with a spice farmer before a four-course Kerala lunch cooked on wood fires under a thatched roof.
9Desert camp under the stars, Thar Desert
A luxury tented camp in the Thar Desert outside Jaisalmer — camel at sunset, Rajasthani folk music around a fire, and the Milky Way without light pollution.
10Dambulla Cave Temples and Cultural Triangle
The rock-face Buddhist temples above Dambulla contain 150 statues and murals stretching back 2,000 years — one of the most intact ancient religious sites in Asia.
Eat & drink
Food & drink in India
Rajasthani thali
A circular platter of dal baati churma, gatte ki sabzi, ker sangri and bajra roti — Rajasthan's warrior-cuisine uses ingredients that survive the desert. A thali at a haveli is the defining meal.
Kerala seafood and coconut cuisine
Karimeen pollichathu (pearl spot fish wrapped in banana leaf), prawn moilee and fresh coconut chutneys — Kerala's backwater cuisine is light, coconut-forward and utterly distinct from north Indian food.
Chai culture and street snacks
Masala chai brewed over a flame with cardamom, ginger and whole milk is woven into every interaction in India. Pair it with samosas, kachori or pani puri from a trusted street stall.
Transport & transfers
Getting around India
Private air-conditioned vehicles are used for all touring and transfers throughout India — essential in the heat and traffic. Domestic flights connect the major cities efficiently. In Kerala, the houseboat is your transport for the backwaters. Overnight trains are available for guests who want the experience, though we recommend flying for longer distances.

Common questions
India travel questions answered
Is India overwhelming for first-time visitors?
India can be sensory and intense — that is part of its power. Our itineraries are specifically designed to modulate the pace, building in hotel rest days, avoiding the most chaotic transport situations and always starting the day at 09:00 or later. Our specialists prepare guests thoroughly before departure so nothing comes as a shock.
What are the chances of seeing a tiger on your wildlife tours?
On our private jeep safaris in Ranthambore and Bandhavgarh, sighting rates are genuinely high — typically 70–80% on a three-safari visit. We use accredited naturalist guides with decades of tracking experience and enter the parks at the optimal early-morning and late-afternoon slots. We cannot guarantee sightings, but our record speaks for itself.
Is the food safe, and will I be comfortable with Indian cuisine?
All restaurants and hotels in our itineraries have been personally vetted for hygiene and quality. We brief every kitchen on dietary requirements. Indian cuisine is extraordinarily varied — guests who dislike spice find plenty of milder options, and our guides know which dishes to order in every region. Stomach issues are rare when restaurants are properly selected.
Should I visit the Taj Mahal at sunrise, and is it worth the early start?
Our Taj Mahal visit is at sunrise — but remember, on our tours no day starts before 09:00. We arrange an overnight stay in Agra so you walk to the Taj at first light without any early departure. The difference between seeing it at 06:30 and 11:00 is extraordinary — early light, fewer visitors, and the white marble at its most luminous.
