Jordan packs the wonders of a continent into one safe, welcoming country. The rose-red city of Petra reached on a gentle walk through the Siq, a night under a blanket of stars in Wadi Rum, the weightless float of the Dead Sea, and Roman cities more intact than almost any in Italy. Our guides are Jordanian nationals who know exactly which climbs to skip and which moments to linger over.

Why travellers over 50 love Jordan
Jordan is compact and safe, with a deep culture of hospitality — guests consistently say how looked-after they feel.
Petra's iconic Treasury is reached on a flat 1.2km walk through the Siq, with horse-drawn carriages available — and the strenuous climbs are entirely optional.
Wadi Rum is explored by 4x4 jeep with no walking required, so the desert is open to everyone.
Just five hours from the UK, with no jet lag to speak of — a remarkable amount of wonder for a short flight.
The Dead Sea's effortless float and mineral spas make for genuinely restful days between the great sights.
Experiences
Top things to do in Jordan
1Petra through the Siq
The walk down the narrow canyon to the Treasury's sudden reveal is one of travel's great moments — and it is flat the whole way.
2A night in Wadi Rum
Explore the rose-red desert by jeep, then sleep at a comfortable camp under one of the darkest, most star-filled skies on earth.
3Float in the Dead Sea
The lowest point on the planet — the mineral-rich water makes floating effortless, followed by a famous mud treatment and a spa afternoon.
4The Roman city of Jerash
Colonnaded streets, temples and a vast hippodrome — among the best-preserved Roman provincial cities anywhere, walked at a gentle pace.
5Mount Nebo & Madaba
The viewpoint where Moses is said to have seen the Promised Land, and the town famous for its ancient Byzantine mosaic map of the Holy Land.
6Petra by Night
The Siq and Treasury lit by thousands of candles, with Bedouin music — an optional evening that many guests rate a highlight.
Eat & drink
Food & drink in Jordan
Mansaf
Jordan's national dish — tender lamb cooked in a fermented dried-yoghurt sauce, served over rice and flatbread. A generous, communal centrepiece.
Mezze & fresh bread
Hummus, moutabal, falafel, fattoush and warm flatbread straight from the oven — long, leisurely spreads that suit unhurried lunches.
Bedouin zarb
In Wadi Rum, meat and vegetables are slow-cooked in an underground sand oven — a memorable desert feast under the stars.
Transport & transfers
Getting around Jordan
Distances in Jordan are short and the roads are good. We use private air-conditioned vehicles with an English-speaking driver-guide throughout — Amman to Petra is around three hours, Petra to Wadi Rum about one. Wadi Rum itself is explored in open 4x4 jeeps driven by local Bedouin. No internal flights are needed.

Our promise
Why travel with us for Jordan
Our Jordanian guides know Petra intimately — which paths are flat, where the carriages wait, and which climbs (the Monastery, the High Place) are entirely optional and easily skipped.
Wadi Rum is explored by 4x4 jeep with no walking required, and our desert camps pair genuine comfort with one of the darkest, most star-filled skies on earth.
We schedule Jordan for spring and autumn and tell you honestly to avoid the high summer, when Petra and the desert reach 40°C — your comfort comes before a quick sale.
Common questions
Jordan travel questions answered
Can I visit Petra if I'm not very steady on my feet?
Yes. The walk from the visitor centre through the Siq to the Treasury — Petra's iconic moment — is a flat, gently downhill 1.2km on a wide path, and horse-drawn carriages are available for those who would prefer to ride. The more demanding parts of Petra (the 800+ steps to the Monastery, the climb to the High Place of Sacrifice) are entirely optional, and your guide will happily plan a day around what is comfortable for you. Most of our over-50s travellers see the very best of Petra at a gentle pace.
When is the best time to visit Jordan?
March to May and September to November are ideal — warm, clear days and cool evenings, perfect for Petra and the desert. We honestly advise against June to August, when Petra and Wadi Rum regularly reach 35–40°C, which is genuinely gruelling. Winter can be cold and wet, particularly around Petra. We schedule our departures squarely in the spring and autumn windows.
Do I need a visa for Jordan?
UK passport holders need a visa, but it is straightforward. Most of our guests use the Jordan Pass, which is bought online before you travel and bundles the entry visa together with admission to Petra and over 40 other sites — it saves money and time. A visa on arrival is also available. We send full step-by-step instructions in your pre-departure pack.
Is Jordan safe to visit?
Jordan is one of the safest and most welcoming countries in the region, with a long history of tourism and a genuinely warm culture of hospitality. Our guests consistently remark on how looked-after they feel. As always, we monitor Foreign Office guidance and our local team adjusts plans if ever needed.
