There is a quality of light in the Maldives that no photograph prepares you for. The Indian Ocean here shifts through aquamarine, jade and cobalt depending on the depth and the hour — and from the deck of your overwater villa at dawn, it is simply the most beautiful thing you have ever looked at. Fatima Rasheed has arranged Maldives holidays for our guests for nine years and knows every resort personally. She will match you to exactly the right island, and look after everything else so that you can concentrate on doing nothing at all.

Made for your pace
Why travellers over 50 love Maldives
The Maldives is the least physically demanding destination in Asia — no walking, no steps, no hills, nothing but flat jetties and warm, effortless water.
Overwater villas provide the most private and self-contained accommodation in the world — your own deck, plunge pool and steps into the lagoon, with no one else anywhere near you.
The seaplane transfer from Malé is an experience in itself — 25 minutes over an atoll world that prepares you, perfectly, for what follows.
Snorkelling directly from your villa steps requires no expertise, no exertion and no swimming ability beyond the ability to float — life jackets always available.
Maldivian resort hospitality is discreet, attentive and remarkably good at reading what you need without being asked.
Experiences
Top things to do in Maldives
1Snorkel from your villa steps
The house reef begins directly below your overwater villa — turtles, reef sharks and clouds of tropical fish, accessible without a boat or any effort.
2Seaplane transfer over the atolls
Twenty-five minutes at low altitude over the Indian Ocean's most extraordinary atoll world — one of the finest arrival experiences in travel.
3Sandbank sunset with Champagne
A private speedboat to a deserted sand spit that appears and disappears with the tide — just you, a cold bottle and a 360-degree horizon.
4Spinner dolphin cruise at dusk
Spinner dolphins are a near-daily sighting in the Maldivian atolls — frequently surfing alongside the boat within arm's reach.
5Overwater spa treatment
A treatment suite cantilevered above the lagoon, the sound of the sea beneath you and the equatorial light filtered through slatted wood — a completely different category of spa experience.
6Local island visit
A speedboat to a working Maldivian community — painted wooden houses, a mosque, women weaving pandanus mats — a quietly moving contrast to the resort world.
Eat & drink
Food & drink in Maldives
Maldivian rice and fish curry
Mas riha — yellowfin tuna in a coconut-milk and chilli curry with steamed rice — is the staple of every Maldivian family home, and the best versions on local islands are extraordinary.
Reef-fresh seafood
At resort restaurants, the lobster, crab and reef fish come from within sight of the island. A beach barbecue or private sandbank dinner built around the morning's catch is a Maldives highlight.
Freshly cracked coconut
The Maldivian coconut — cracked open by resort staff and served on your villa deck at any hour — is among the finest cooling drinks in the world after a morning in the sun.
Transport & transfers
Getting around Maldives
From Malé, resorts in the closer atolls are reached by speedboat (20–45 minutes); resorts in the outer atolls by seaplane (20–45 minutes). Once at your resort, all movement is by foot along flat jetties or by golf buggy on request. There is nowhere else to go — the resort is your world for the duration, which is entirely the point.

Our promise
Why travel with us for Maldives
Fatima Rasheed has stayed personally at over thirty Maldivian resorts and knows every property in the portfolio from the inside — she matches you to the right island, not just the right price point.
We recommend water villas as the defining Maldives experience — and handle all the fine print of room categories, reef proximity and villa orientation so you wake up looking at the right view.
Our combination itineraries pair the Maldives with Sri Lanka, giving you a week of culture and a week of pure rest — the two halves make each other better, and we sequence them perfectly.
Common questions
Maldives travel questions answered
Is the Maldives suitable for over-60s?
It is one of the most suitable destinations in the world. There are no hills, no demanding walks, no early starts and nothing physically taxing unless you choose it. Snorkelling is done from your own villa steps into warm, calm water — no strong swimming ability required. The seaplane transfer involves a short, flat walk and a small step up, which resort staff assist with. Everything else — meals, excursions, spa — is designed to come to you.
What is the best time of year to visit the Maldives?
November to April is the dry northeast monsoon season — calm, crystal-clear seas with excellent snorkelling visibility, low humidity and reliable sunshine. December, January and February are the finest months. May to October brings the southwest monsoon with some rain and rougher seas, lower prices and quieter resorts. For guests focused on snorkelling and water excursions, we recommend November to April. For a spa and rest holiday with good value, October and early November are excellent.
Do I need to be able to swim to enjoy the Maldives?
Not at all. Glass-bottomed boat excursions let you observe the reef, turtles and rays in complete comfort above the water. Spa days, sunset cruises, sandbank picnics and local island visits are all fully available to non-swimmers. For those who do enter the water, even a short snorkel from your villa in the calm, clear lagoon is one of the most accessible reef experiences anywhere. Life jackets and flotation aids are always available.
What is the difference between a water villa and a beach villa?
A water villa (overwater bungalow) is built on stilts above the lagoon, with a private deck over the water, your own steps directly into the sea, and often a glass floor panel letting you watch the reef below. Stepping off your own deck into a turquoise lagoon at dawn is the defining Maldives experience — we recommend water villas for all guests who can manage the short seaplane or speedboat transfer and a flat jetty walk.
