18-Day India Grand Tour
The Taj Mahal, the sacred Ganges, the desert palaces, Mumbai's colonial grandeur and Kerala's backwaters — India complete

About this tour
India is too large and too diverse for a single tour to capture completely. But eighteen days, properly designed, can give you the essential India — the north, the sacred, the royal, the colonial and the tropical south — as a coherent narrative rather than a jumble of impressions. This tour begins in Delhi (Old Delhi and New Delhi), moves to Agra for the Taj Mahal at dawn, crosses to Varanasi for the sacred Ganges, flies south to Jaipur for the Pink City and Amber Fort, and ends in Mumbai and Kerala — the colonial grandeur of the Gateway of India and the extraordinary peace of the backwater houseboat. Priya accompanies the entire eighteen days. Her knowledge spans the full breadth of the tour — Mughal history in the north, Hindu sacred tradition in Varanasi, Rajput architecture in Jaipur, colonial history in Mumbai and Kerala ecology and culture in the south. Her guests describe this tour, consistently, as one of the most profound experiences of their lives.

Who will plan your holiday
Priya Sharma
Priya has led the 18-day Grand Tour eleven times and describes it as the most satisfying thing she does professionally. "India is a country that reveals itself through time — the more time you give it, the more it gives you. Eighteen days is the minimum to tell the full story." Her knowledge spans every element of this tour: Mughal history in Delhi and Agra, Hindu sacred tradition in Varanasi, Rajput culture in Jaipur, colonial history in Mumbai and Kerala ecology and cuisine. The result is a continuous narrative rather than a collection of separate experiences.

What our guests say
Guest reviews
The greatest journey of our lives — without hyperbole
“We have travelled extensively in seventy combined years of international travel. We have said many times that a particular journey was the best. This time, we mean it absolutely and finally. Priya Sharma is a guide of a calibre we have not encountered before. The range of her knowledge — from the Mughal court at Agra to the burning ghats at Varanasi to the backwater ecology in Kerala — is extraordinary. The Taj Mahal at dawn and the Ganges at dawn in the same week: two of the greatest experiences of our lives, one week apart.”

Eighteen days — the best decision of my solo travelling life
“I have been solo travelling for eight years since retirement. This was the longest tour I had attempted. Priya made eighteen days feel like one continuous conversation about the most extraordinary country. The range of what she knows — and the way she connects the threads between Mughal architecture and Hindu sacred tradition and colonial Mumbai and Kerala cuisine — is something I have never experienced from a guide. The Grand Tour is correctly named.”

India told as a complete story — magnificent
“The design of this tour is clever — the journey from Delhi south through Varanasi and Jaipur to Mumbai and Kerala creates a geographical and historical narrative that gives India a logic it can otherwise lack for first-time visitors. Priya makes that narrative vivid and comprehensible. The Taj Mahal Palace Mumbai was a magnificent culmination before the backwater peace of Kerala brought the whole thing to a perfect conclusion.”

Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Is eighteen days in India too long?
No — India is vast and diverse, and eighteen days is genuinely the minimum to tell the complete story. The tour covers four completely different regions (north, sacred east, Rajasthan, west coast and south) — each with its own history, climate, food culture and architectural tradition. Guests who have done shorter India tours consistently say this tour gave them the depth and context those tours lacked.
How does the Mumbai section differ from the rest of the tour?
Mumbai is colonial, cosmopolitan and contemporary — very different from the Mughal north or the Rajput cities. The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is a British Raj-era masterpiece; the Gateway of India is the arch built to welcome King George V in 1911 (and through which the last British troops departed in 1948). The Dharavi visit adds a completely different dimension — the economic dynamism of informal urban India. Priya loves Mumbai precisely because it disrupts easy assumptions about the country.
Is the Dharavi visit ethical?
Yes — Priya's Dharavi visit is conducted with a local guide from the community and focuses on the industrial and manufacturing sections (recycling, leather goods, pottery, embroidery) rather than the residential areas. No photography without explicit permission. The visit generates direct economic benefit for the community through the guide fees. It is widely regarded as one of the most illuminating experiences in Mumbai.
What is the transition from Mumbai to Kochi like?
A 90-minute domestic flight south — completely comfortable. The contrast is extraordinary: from the urban intensity of Mumbai to the palm-fringed colonial charm of Fort Kochi in 90 minutes. Priya uses the flight for a briefing on Kerala that prepares guests for the significant change of atmosphere.
Are there any optional elements if guests cannot manage certain parts of the tour?
Yes — every element of this tour has an alternative. The Dharavi visit can be replaced with an alternative Mumbai neighbourhood walk. The Varanasi burning ghat boat trip can be observed from a greater distance. The Amber Fort steps can be avoided via ramp. The Munnar tea garden walk can be replaced with a scenic vehicle tour. Priya assesses each guest's needs and adjusts accordingly — please communicate any concerns at booking.
What is the 18-day tour's 5.0 rating based on?
Twelve verified reviews with an average rating of 5.0 — all five stars. Guests who choose the 18-day Grand Tour tend to be experienced travellers who have planned carefully, have clear expectations and are willing to give the time required. The combination of Priya's expertise and the tour's comprehensive scope produces an experience that consistently exceeds those high expectations.
