About this tour

There is no gentler, more rewarding way to fall in love with Southeast Asia than this. Three countries — Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand — each utterly distinct, each effortlessly comfortable for the mature traveller, and each connected by short, painless flights and private transfers rather than long overland slogs. You begin in the gleaming order of Singapore, move through Malaysia's layered heritage cities, and finish in Thailand, where Bangkok's golden temples give way to a few days of pure rest on a Thai beach or in the cool, cultured calm of Chiang Mai. This 14-night private journey is built around the idea that the first deep dive into the region should be a pleasure from beginning to end. Three nights in Singapore introduce Gardens by the Bay, the Marina Bay skyline and the UNESCO-listed hawker culture. Two nights in Kuala Lumpur bring the Petronas Towers and the dramatic Batu Caves. Two nights in Georgetown, Penang reveal arguably the most complete colonial streetscape in Asia, with food to match. Then you fly to Thailand: three nights in Bangkok for the Grand Palace, the great temples and the Chao Phraya River, and four nights to finish on a beach or in Chiang Mai — your choice, and the perfect decompression before the flight home. Throughout, the emphasis is on comfort, food and ease. Hotels are smart, well-located and chosen for the 50-plus traveller — riverside in Bangkok, heritage in Penang, walkable in KL, with one or two standout addresses where it matters. Private transfers mean you are never wrestling with luggage or taxis. Free afternoons and rest days mean the pace never tips into exhaustion. This is Southeast Asia at its most sophisticated and least stressful — superb value, beautifully organised, and led by guides who know exactly when to press on and when to let you simply sit and watch the river go by.

This is the trip I recommend to anyone discovering Southeast Asia for the first time — three countries, all the icons, and a beach at the end to make sense of it all. — James Whitfield, Malaysia & Singapore Specialist

Day-by-day itinerary

1

Arrival in Singapore

Singapore

Private transfer from Changi Airport — consistently rated the world's best — to your hotel near the Marina Bay waterfront. The rest of the day is yours to settle in and recover from the flight. This evening your Singapore guide joins you for a relaxed welcome dinner at a riverside restaurant along the Singapore River, with the illuminated skyline as a backdrop.

Meals: Dinner (welcome dinner, Singapore River)Walking: approx. 1 kmHotel: PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay ★★★★★
Specialist tip: Resist the urge to do anything strenuous on arrival day. A slow evening stroll along the river promenade, then an early night, sets you up perfectly for the days ahead.
Accessibility: Private transfer door to door. The hotel is fully lift-served with step-free access throughout.
2

Gardens by the Bay & Marina Bay

Singapore

A morning at Gardens by the Bay — the 100-hectare horticultural marvel beside Marina Bay. The two glass conservatories, the Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, are blissfully air-conditioned sanctuaries, and the Cloud Forest's 35-metre indoor waterfall is unlike anything else in Asia. Your guide takes you through at a gentle pace. The afternoon is free; this evening, stay for the Supertree Grove light show, when the 50-metre steel trees illuminate against the night sky.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 4 kmHotel: PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay ★★★★★
Specialist tip: The Supertree light show runs at 19:45 and 20:45. The later show is a little quieter — find a spot on the lawn with a cool drink and let it come to you.
Accessibility: Gardens by the Bay is flat and fully accessible, with shuttle buggies between zones. The conservatories have lifts to all levels.
3

Chinatown, Hawker Culture & Sentosa

Singapore

A morning through Singapore's living Chinatown — the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, traditional medicine halls and goldsmiths — followed by an included hawker centre lunch, where your guide steers you to the best stalls: Hainanese chicken rice, char kway teow, and a proper kopi to finish. The afternoon offers a gentle taste of Sentosa Island via the Mount Faber cable car, with sweeping views over the harbour, or a free afternoon at the hotel pool if you prefer to rest before tomorrow's flight.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch (Maxwell Food Centre)Walking: approx. 5 kmHotel: PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay ★★★★★
Specialist tip: At the hawker centre, order less than you think you need at each stall — the joy is grazing across several. Your guide knows which queues are worth joining.
Accessibility: Chinatown has some uneven paving; a folding stick is useful. The cable car and hawker centres are step-free. Temples have step-free side entrances.
4

Singapore to Kuala Lumpur

Singapore → Kuala Lumpur

A leisurely morning before a private transfer to Changi for the included one-hour flight to Kuala Lumpur. Your KL guide meets you at the airport and transfers you to your hotel near the Petronas Towers. This evening, a gentle orientation walk through KLCC Park beneath the glittering towers, followed by dinner at a relaxed local restaurant your guide favours.

Meals: Breakfast, DinnerWalking: approx. 2 kmHotel: Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur ★★★★
Specialist tip: The musical fountain show in KLCC Park, with the towers lit behind it, runs every evening — a lovely, free way to end a travel day.
Accessibility: Private transfers throughout. The hotel connects directly to Pavilion mall and the towers via covered, step-free walkways.
5

Petronas Towers & Old Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur

An early visit to the Petronas Towers Skybridge — the highest two-storey bridge in the world, connecting the twin towers — before the crowds build. Then to Merdeka Square, where Malaysia declared independence in 1957, surrounded by the Tudor-Revival Royal Selangor Club, the Jamek Mosque and the magnificent Sultan Abdul Samad Building. The afternoon is free for the hotel pool, a spa treatment, or browsing the Central Market's craft stalls.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 5 kmHotel: Pavilion Hotel Kuala Lumpur ★★★★
Specialist tip: Petronas Skybridge tickets sell out — we book these weeks ahead. The mid-morning slot in soft light is the most photogenic for the view down KLCC Park.
Accessibility: The Skybridge is reached by lift and is fully accessible. Merdeka Square and Central Market are flat and step-free.
6

Batu Caves & Fly to Penang

Kuala Lumpur → Penang

A morning visit to Batu Caves, 13km north of the city — a series of caverns inside a 400-million-year-old limestone massif, guarded by a 43-metre golden statue of Lord Murugan. Those who wish can climb the 272 steps to the dramatic Cathedral Cave; others enjoy the step-free temples at the base. An afternoon transfer to the airport for the short included flight to Penang, where your Georgetown guide meets you and transfers you to your heritage hotel in the UNESCO zone.

Meals: Breakfast, DinnerWalking: approx. 4 kmHotel: The Edison George Town ★★★★
Specialist tip: The 272 steps at Batu Caves are entirely optional. The colourful staircase is wonderful to photograph from the bottom, and the base temples are atmospheric and step-free.
Accessibility: The Cathedral Cave requires climbing 272 steps with handrails. Guests preferring to avoid them can visit the step-free temples at the base. All flights and transfers are private and assisted.
7

Georgetown: Heritage, Murals & Food

Georgetown, Penang

A full day exploring Georgetown — arguably the most complete colonial streetscape in Southeast Asia. Within a few hundred metres stand Hokkien clan houses, the Kapitan Keling Mosque, Sri Mahamariamman Temple and St George's Church — the physical record of the Straits Settlements' remarkable multicultural society. The famous street-art murals are scattered through the lanes, and your guide threads a route that finds them in their best light. Lunch is an included food trail through Penang's celebrated hawker scene — assam laksa, char kway teow and cendol.

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch (Penang hawker food trail)Walking: approx. 6 kmHotel: The Edison George Town ★★★★
Specialist tip: Penang is, for many, the food capital of the region. Come hungry — your guide will pace the trail so you can sample widely without feeling overwhelmed.
Accessibility: Georgetown's heritage lanes have uneven stone paving in places; sensible shoes and a folding stick help. The route can be shortened on request, and a vehicle stays close by.
8

Penang to Bangkok

Penang → Bangkok

A relaxed morning in Georgetown — perhaps a final coffee in a restored shophouse café — before a private transfer to Penang Airport for the included flight to Bangkok. Your Thailand guide meets you at Suvarnabhumi Airport and transfers you to your riverside hotel on the Chao Phraya. The evening is free; the hotel's riverfront terrace is a lovely place to watch the longtail boats and rice barges pass beneath the lit-up skyline.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 2 kmHotel: Riva Surya Bangkok ★★★★
Specialist tip: Ask for a river-view room. Bangkok's Chao Phraya is the city's great artery, and watching it from your balcony with a cold drink is one of the trip's quiet pleasures.
Accessibility: Private assisted transfers throughout. The riverside hotel is lift-served with step-free access from the road and to the river terrace.
9

The Grand Palace & Bangkok's Great Temples

Bangkok

A morning at the Grand Palace and the adjoining Wat Phra Kaew, home of the revered Emerald Buddha — the spiritual heart of Thailand and one of the most dazzling complexes in Asia. Nearby, Wat Pho houses the colossal 46-metre Reclining Buddha. Your guide navigates the crowds and the etiquette so you can simply absorb it all. The afternoon is free; a sunset longtail-boat cruise along the river and its quiet canals can be arranged.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 5 kmHotel: Riva Surya Bangkok ★★★★
Specialist tip: Visit the Grand Palace at opening time, before the heat and the largest tour groups. The dress code is strict — covered shoulders and knees — so bring a light scarf and trousers.
Accessibility: The Grand Palace and Wat Pho are largely flat with some thresholds and gravel; ramps exist at key points. Shoes are removed inside temple halls — slip-on footwear is easiest.
10

Bangkok at Leisure & Fly to your Finish

Bangkok → Beach or Chiang Mai

A free morning in Bangkok — perhaps the flower market, a riverside spa, or simply a slow breakfast watching the river. After lunch, a private transfer to the airport for the short included flight to your chosen finish: a relaxing Thai beach (Phuket or Krabi) or the cool, cultured calm of Chiang Mai in the north. Your resort guide meets you on arrival and transfers you to your hotel. The evening is yours to begin unwinding.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 2 kmHotel: Katathani Phuket Beach Resort / Rachamankha Chiang Mai ★★★★
Specialist tip: Both finishes are wonderful in different ways. Choose the beach if you want pure rest and warm sea; choose Chiang Mai if you prefer cooler air, temples, markets and gentle countryside.
Accessibility: Private assisted transfers and a short domestic flight. Both finishing hotels are lift-served or single-storey with step-free access to the main facilities.
11

Beach or Chiang Mai at Leisure

Beach or Chiang Mai

A full free day to relax. On the beach, this means the sea, the pool, a massage and a long lunch with your toes near the sand. In Chiang Mai, it might mean a gentle morning temple visit — the gilded Wat Phra Singh or the hillside Doi Suthep — and an afternoon at leisure. Either way, the day is entirely yours, with your guide on hand should you wish to arrange anything.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 2 kmHotel: Katathani Phuket Beach Resort / Rachamankha Chiang Mai ★★★★
Specialist tip: This is your designed rest day — treat it as such. A Thai massage in the late afternoon, after the heat has passed, is the perfect way to ease the muscles after two weeks of travel.
Accessibility: No fixed itinerary today. Beach resorts have step-free pool and dining access; Chiang Mai temple visits can be arranged with the gentler, step-free routes.
12

Optional Excursion or Pure Rest

Beach or Chiang Mai

Another free day, with an optional gentle excursion if you wish. On the beach, a relaxed half-day boat trip to a nearby island and quiet bay; in Chiang Mai, a morning at an ethical elephant sanctuary or the handicraft villages of San Kamphaeng. Equally, doing nothing at all is a perfectly good plan — the whole point of these final days is to decompress before the long flight home.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 3 kmHotel: Katathani Phuket Beach Resort / Rachamankha Chiang Mai ★★★★
Specialist tip: If you choose the Chiang Mai elephant experience, pick a genuine sanctuary with no riding — we only work with ethical projects, and the difference is immediately obvious and far more rewarding.
Accessibility: Optional excursions are gentle and can be tailored to mobility. Boat trips involve a short step on and off the vessel, with crew assistance.
13

A Final Free Day

Beach or Chiang Mai

Your last full day, entirely unstructured. Many guests simply repeat whatever they enjoyed most — another long lunch by the sea, a final wander through Chiang Mai's old city and its night bazaar, a last massage. Your guide can arrange a special farewell dinner if you wish, somewhere quietly memorable to mark the end of the journey.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 2 kmHotel: Katathani Phuket Beach Resort / Rachamankha Chiang Mai ★★★★
Specialist tip: Do your gift shopping today rather than rushing it tomorrow. Chiang Mai's craft markets and Phuket's resort boutiques both pack and post home, sparing your luggage.
Accessibility: A relaxed day at your own pace. All hotel facilities are step-free, and the concierge can arrange assisted transport for any independent outings.
14

Departure

Beach or Chiang Mai → Home

A final breakfast and, depending on your flight, perhaps a last swim or a quiet morning before a private transfer to the airport for your onward journey home. Your guide sees you off and ensures the airport process is smooth and unhurried.

Meals: BreakfastWalking: approx. 1 km
Specialist tip: Build in plenty of time at the airport — there is no need to rush at the end of a holiday designed around ease.
Accessibility: Private assisted transfer to the airport, with help available through check-in if required.

The perfect first taste of Southeast Asia

We had always wanted to visit this part of the world but were nervous about doing it ourselves at our age. This took away every worry. Three countries, all the famous sights, and a beach at the end that we never wanted to leave. The flights and transfers were utterly seamless and the guides in each country were marvellous. The food was a revelation throughout.

Wonderful value and beautifully organised

I travelled solo at 64 and felt looked after at every step. Singapore dazzled me, Penang charmed me, Bangkok astonished me, and Chiang Mai was the loveliest possible way to wind down. The single supplement was waived on my January departure, which made it superb value. I have already recommended it to three friends.

Exactly the right pace for us

What sold us was the rest days. So many tours march you from dawn to dusk, but this one had free afternoons and a proper four-night finish to recover. We chose the Phuket beach and it was idyllic. The riverside hotel in Bangkok was a particular highlight — watching the boats from our balcony each evening was magical.

Three countries without a single moment of stress

My husband has a dodgy knee and I worried about all the flights and temples. The team handled everything — the steps at Batu Caves were optional, the transfers were private and door-to-door, and the guides always found the step-free route. It was the holiday of a lifetime and we felt entirely safe and cared for.

A superb introduction to the region

A genuinely well-thought-out trip that gives you a real flavour of three very different countries. Our only small wish was for one extra night in Penang, which we loved. Everything else was excellent — the hotels were comfortable and well-placed, and the value for money was outstanding.

Before you go

Practical information

Visa requirements

Currency

Singapore Dollar (SGD) in Singapore, Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) in Malaysia, and Thai Baht (THB) in Thailand. Credit and contactless cards are widely accepted in cities; carry some local cash for hawker stalls, markets and temples. ATMs are plentiful at airports and in town centres.

Tipping

Tipping is modest and not obligatory across the region. Many restaurants add a service charge; otherwise a small token is appreciated. For your private guides, a gratuity of the local equivalent of £6–10 per day for excellent service is customary and welcomed.

Electricity

230V / 50Hz across all three countries. Singapore and Malaysia use Type G (UK 3-pin) sockets — no adapter needed. Thailand uses Type A/B/C sockets, so a universal travel adapter is required for the Thailand leg.

Health & vaccinations

Tap water is safe to drink in Singapore; use bottled or filtered water in Malaysia and Thailand. Medical care is excellent in the cities. Bring adequate supplies of any prescription medicines in their original packaging, with a copy of your prescription.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions

Do I need visas for Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand?

British passport holders require no visa for any of the three countries for the lengths of stay on this tour — Singapore (up to 90 days), Malaysia (up to 90 days) and Thailand (up to 60 days visa-free for tourism). Entry is granted on arrival in each country. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your departure date from the region.

Are the international flights from the UK included?

The headline price of £1,895 is land-only, covering all four internal flights, hotels, transfers, guiding and listed meals across the 14 nights. International flights from the UK are not included, but we are very happy to arrange them for you — typically London to Singapore and home from your Thai finish — and will quote competitively at the time of booking.

How do we move between the four countries and cities?

Every internal journey is by short flight — Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, KL to Penang, Penang to Bangkok, and Bangkok to your beach or Chiang Mai finish — each around one to one and a half hours, far more comfortable than long road or rail journeys. Private air-conditioned transfers handle every airport and every hotel, so you never wrestle with luggage or taxis.

Should I choose the beach finish or Chiang Mai?

Both are wonderful and the price is the same. Choose the Thai beach (Phuket or Krabi) if you want pure rest, warm sea and sand to round off the trip. Choose Chiang Mai if you prefer cooler air, beautiful temples, craft markets, gentle countryside and a more cultural close. Tell us your preference at booking and we will tailor the final four nights accordingly.

Is this tour suitable for travellers with mobility concerns?

Yes, with sensible planning. The pace is moderate, with rest days and free afternoons, and transfers are private and door-to-door throughout. The 272 steps at Batu Caves are entirely optional — there are step-free temples at the base. Georgetown has some uneven heritage paving, and temples require shoe removal, but routes can be shortened and vehicles stay close by. Please discuss any specific needs at booking so we can adapt.

How much walking is involved each day?

Most days involve 4–5km of mostly flat walking, with the busiest day in Georgetown reaching around 6km over uneven heritage streets. The Bangkok temple day and the Singapore days involve some standing and walking in the heat, always scheduled for cooler mornings. The four-night beach or Chiang Mai finish is restful by design, so the trip eases off considerably at the end.

What is the food like, and can dietary needs be catered for?

This is one of the great eating journeys in Asia — Singapore's hawker culture, Penang's celebrated street food, Bangkok's markets and Thai cuisine throughout. Your guides steer you to the best, cleanest and most authentic stalls and restaurants. Vegetarian, vegan and most dietary requirements are very well catered for across all three countries; please let us know at booking.

When is the best time of year to travel?

The most comfortable window is roughly November to March, when humidity across the region is a little lower and the Thai beaches are at their best. All three countries are hot and humid year-round (28–34°C), with short tropical showers possible in any month. We have scheduled departures across these months through 2026, 2027 and 2028.
